Juniors: Mad about Pasta Cooking Competition on 30th July 2011

Correction: Each Squad is divided into 2 teams and each team is cook a different pasta dish. Please take note!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Are you ready to pitch your pasta preparation skills against the rest of the teams? Let's get Mad about Pasta! This time around, the total Junior Section has been divided into 12 teams, 2 from each squad. So this will be a team competition.

This is how you and your pasta dishes will be evaluated and judged during the competition. The performance of the team will be evaluated by the Squad Officer and the dishes will be judged by the panel of judges comprising your Bible Class Teachers!

The Squad Officers/Helpers will oversee 2 teams each and will be evaluating them based on the following:
Teamwork & Leadership (0 - 15 pts)
- Does the team members work well together?
- Is everyone well utilized? Anyone lepaking or unwilling to pull their own weight?
- Are things done in an orderly manner?
- Is the team well led? Can the team leader handle the team members well?
- Are clear instructions given to all team members by their leader?

Hygiene (0 - 15 pts)
- Does the team practice good hygiene?
- Do they wash their hands and utensils before using them?
- Do they clean their raw materials properly?

Cleanliness (0 - 20 pts)
- Cleanliness of the workplace, table, stove, floor, garbage bin, pots & pans, utensils, etc before and especially after the competition!

Deductions (Max -20 pts) - Deductions for teams not following the rules of the competition e.g. bring pre-prepared food chopped up by the parent or maid, does not follow safety procedures, handling knives dangerously, running around, members not helping out with the squad, taking things from other squad without asking for permission, sabotaging others, arguing and fighting, etc.

The panel of judges will taste and judge your 2 pasta dishes based on the creativity of its ingredients and thoughts that go into its planning: Creativity (0 - 25 pts)

Varieties of the cooking style and pasta (0 - 20 pts)
- Each team is tasked with preparing 2 different types of pasta cooked with different methods/sauces e.g. spaghetti bolognese, fettucini alla carbonara, penne arrabiata, etc.

Deliciousness Factor (0-40 pts per dish)
- How good is the pasta dishes in taste and physical presentation?
- Good usage of different ingredients to complement the pasta?
- Edibility

Presentation (0 - 15 pts)
- How good is the verbal presentation by the team member(s) in describing their pasta dishes, the ingredients and cooking process?
- How good is the marketing? Will you order the dish in a restaurant?

Deductions (Max -20 pts)
- Deductions for un-BB conduct e.g. does not follow safety procedures, handling knives dangerously, arguing and fighting, disparaging other teams & etc.

The prizes? We will have 12 teams.. and the prizes are:
1st, 2nd and 3rd placing - Angry Birds soft toy or key chains/phone loop
4th, 5th and 6th placing - F&N Zapple can drinks
7th, 8th and 9th placing - Chocolates
10th, 11th and 12th placing - Snacks

The tentative timing for the competition:
2.00 - 2.15pm - Fall-in
2.15 - 2.45pm - Worship
2.45 - 3.00pm - Mad about Pasta Competition Briefing
3.00 - 4.30pm - Cooking time
4.30 - 4.45pm - Setting up the Pasta Dishes for judging & cleaning up
4.45 - 5.15pm - Judges evaluation
5.15 - 5.30pm - Team Pasta makan
5.30pm - Fall-out and announcement of winners
