Juniors: Malaysia Agriculture Park Outing on 23rd Oct 2010

For the upcoming Malaysia Agriculture Park (MAP), we will be doing some exploration of the park to understand a little bit about agro-forestry based on sustainable agriculture practices and some orienteering as well as to enjoy the fresh air and lots of exercise! We will be doing a lot of walking so get ready!

Lt. Usha wrote regarding the MAP:
"It is more o
f an agricultural park with a small pocketed forest stand. The whole concept of the park is the transitional phase of land conversion, i.e., from forested area to agricultural plots. It will be a good educational site for Jr. as we could relay to the lifestyle changes of the past, present and future. The past had depended in the natural resources of the forest for sustenance while the future resources will only partially be renewable. The agricultured land will deplete the land nutrients which farmers have to fill in with fertilisers which in excess will be harmful and will end as runoff pollutants. The natural resources of the forest suffices man and animals but the manufactured agricultural resources caters only for humans."
